Just before 6:00 p.m. Huron OPP, Wingham Police Service and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to a single motor vehicle collision that took place on London Road just north of Bok Line.
Upon arrival they located a heavily damaged sports utility vehicle that had slid down an embankment and collided with a tree. The lone occupant of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for possible injuries. The male was assessed for injuries and cleared by medical staff however police suspected the male had been drinking alcohol prior to the collision.
Consequently, a demand was made to the driver for a sample of his breath to determine if he had been drinking. The driver complied and failed the roadside test. He was then placed under arrest and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He later provided two breath samples to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
A 17-year-old male from Wingham has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 14, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Wingham.
