Hit And Run In Fergus

The complainant reported observing a male driver driving a four-door silver sedan hit a stop sign then a fence on Woodside Street, Fergus. The driver was seen getting out of his vehicle, looking around then drove away.
County Roads did attend and put a temporary Stop Sign in place. The driver was not located.
Wellington County OPP would like to remind drivers of their duty to report collisions. If you are in a collision and visible damage to both vehicles combined is over $2000 you are required to file a police report. If there is no damage or it is less than $2000 combined you do not have to report a collision. As well, you are also required to report a collision if:
There is personal injury
The accident involves a government vehicle
If it involves a driver who doesn't have car insurance
A criminal act occurs such as an impaired driver
The accident involves a pedestrian
Damage is caused to private or municipal property
Failure to report an accident can lead to charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
