45 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested On Vanastra Road - Name Released

At approximately 2:21 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call about an erratic driver that was travelling northbound on London Road north of Rodgerville Road. Minutes later a Huron OPP officer spotted the suspect vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler, near Vanastra Road. A traffic stop ensued and while speaking with the male driver the officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol.
A roadside screening test was administered which resulted in a fail for the driver. He was placed under arrest for Driving With Over 80 Milligrams and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
45-year-old Bidan BANIK from London has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol & Novice Driver Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for April 16, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. His vehicle was towed from the scene and has been impounded for the week. In addition, his driver's licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
