NOTE: Under the Police Act the OPP immediately took over policing for Wingham. You likely have already noticed the OPP patrolling Wingham this morning. 5 out 7 Wingham Officers have already been accepted in the ranks of the well equipped OPP and will be inside those OPP cruisers by the end of the week.
Chief’s Speech:
I would like to apologize to Council and everyone in Wingham for my previous silence regarding the number of officers required to safely police Wingham. It was wrong for me not to stand with Trevor Seip and the 7 Officers which are beneath me. I am appalled the Councillors from Blyth and East-Wawanosh did not abstain from the vote regarding Wingham Policing as it is tantamount to taxation without representation.
As a former member of the Military I have been willing to lay my life down to defend those honorable ideals decreed in our Charter of Rights to which I have sworn an oath. I can no longer get a full night’s sleep as I can’t bear what has been done to Wingham ratepayers by Campbell, Hallahan, Knott, Vodden, Ritsema-Teeninga and Vincent.
Due to the recent passing of Bill 175, also known as the Safer Ontario Act, Wingham will no longer be receiving any free service from the OPP. Any major crime will cost millions and will be paid by the Wingham ratepayers raising annual policing costs to at least $1,700/property. I wrote a letter to council which was apparently completely ignored. Now I truly know what it feels like to be ratepayer in Wingham.
The police board has demanded that our officers only patrol within Wingham town limits. This is unbearable for the officers as this can be done within 12-15 minutes making the officers feel like a goldfish in a small poorly maintained pothole filled bowl.
Those businesses that have been extorted by our officers for free coffee and meals will be compensated. A $348,000.00 fund has been set up to be distributed to those businesses affected and Wait Staff that were rudely never tipped adequately.
Words and cash can not make things right with the Wingham ratepayers, only my resignation can. I am turning in my badge and sidearm to the the Chair of the Police Service Board, Trevor Seip. - Chief does so and returns to podium -
I have also been disrespectful to numerous members of the public and new media, for that I too apologize. There is no excuse for my behaviour other than my obsession with the political documentary regarding Westeros I have been binge watching.
All 7 officers have already resigned and turned in their sidearms. You will find them in a pile beneath the leak in the roof you have refused to fix.
The OPP have already been notified and there was absolutely no interruption in service during the transition last night. - The former Chief then left the building in silence.
The packed Public Gallery gasped and applauded as the former chief did the walk of shame down the hallway and down the steps of Town Hall.
Reeve Neil Vincent quickly called the meeting to an end, at which time thunderous applause broke out and airhorns blasted in celebration of Wingham’s Liberation.
