William GIBBS Arrested On Brussels Line For Impaired Driving

Shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed northbound on Brussels Line, near Jamestown Road. Upon stopping the speeding vehicle the investigating officer detected the odour of marihuana coming from inside the vehicle. Upon searching the driver and the motor vehicle, police located a quantity of marihuana.
Further, the driver failed the standard field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. He was subsequently transported to the Teviotdale OPP detachment whereupon he completed further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert. Ultimately, it was determined the driver was impaired by a drug.
As a result, the driver, 55-year-old William GIBBS from Barrie was charged with Impaired Driving, Speeding and Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marihuana). In addition, his passenger, 60-year-old Peggy HARRIS was charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marihuana). Both have been released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 18, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
The vehicle was also towed from the scene and was impounded. Additionally, his driver's licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
