Human Remains Found Update - Name Released

On November 2, 2017 at approximately 3:26 p.m., Grey County OPP received a report of human remains found on the shoreline of Georgian Beach Road North in the Municipality of Meaford.
The Grey County OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), Ontario Forensic Pathology Services (OFPS) - Forensic Anthropology, and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario (OCCO) partnered in the investigation. On November 9, 2017, it was confirmed that the found remains was a human foot.
With assistance from OPP Missing Persons Unidentified Bodies (MPUB) Unit, OFPS and Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS), Grey Bruce OPP have been able to bring discovery to the investigation.
On May 29, 2019 it was confirmed through analysis by CFS that the DNA from the found human remains matched the DNA of missing male, John PATTERSON. No foul play is suspected.
The OPP Missing Persons & Unidentified Bodies Unit (MPUB), in partnership with the OCCO/OFPS analyzes outstanding missing person cases in hopes of facilitating resolution for the families of loved ones who have gone missing.
MPUB Unit provides expert investigative support to all law enforcement agencies and the OCCO/OFPS, by identifying potential linkages of unidentified persons to missing persons through analysis, tips and forensics (DNA, dental, fingerprints) and provides additional information to assist with resolving cases.
