Officer Attacked With Baseball Bat - FOWLES Arrested

On Friday, July 26, 2019 at approximately 9:06 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a call on Carling Street about someone letting off firecrackers in the neighbourhood. Upon arrival officers checked around however no signs of anyone letting off firecrackers were observed.
Upon receiving the initial call from the complainant officers received a secondary call from the same caller. This time, the caller began expressing his concerns with various unrelated issues. Upon locating the caller's residence officers attempted to speak with the caller however he refused to speak with the officers. A call was made into the residence and the caller was asked to come out and speak with the officers so they could ascertain further details.
The resident then immediately opened his door and charged out of his residence at the two responding officers. The accused then swung a baseball bat at the one officer striking the officer in the arm causing a minor injury.
The accused then retreated into his residence and barricaded himself inside. Additional resources were called to the scene and approximately an hour and a half later the accused surrendered to police without incident.
Kevin FOWLES, 33 years of age, from Exeter has been charged with Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 12, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
