Distracted driving is any action of driving while engaging in other activities which distract the driver's attention away from the road. Distractions are shown to compromise the safety of the driver, passengers, pedestrians, and people in other vehicles.
Here are some statistics;
Drivers engaged in visual-manual interactions with cell phones (e.g., texting) are up to eight times as likely to be involved in a crash.
Canadians say that texting while driving is one of the biggest threats to their personal safety on the road.
Checking a text for 5 seconds means that at 90 km/h, you've travelled the length of a football field blindfolded.
About 26% of all car crashes involve phone use, including hands-free phone use.
