At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling on Josephine Street in Wingham when he observed a possible offence under the Highway Traffic Act.
The investigating officer noted the attached licence plates on the minivan in question were not registered to the vehicle the driver was operating. As such a traffic stop was conducted and the driver was spoken to. The officer also learned the vehicle was not insured and the validation sticker affixed to the licence plate was improper.
Also, as the officer returned to the vehicle to seize the attached licence plates the officer noticed the driver was attempting to conceal a pill bottle inside the vehicle. Upon inspection of the bottle the contents were found to be suspected methamphetamine.
As a result, the 50-year-old driver, Kevin STURGEON from Huron East has been charged with the following offences:
Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine
Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
Fail to Notify Change of Address
Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
Use Validation Not Furnished for Vehicle
The accused has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 28, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
