Canaan ATKINSON Hit & Run, Drunk Driving

On July 11, 2024, just before 7:00 p.m., members of the Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 105. Upon officers arrival, the driver of the motor vehicle had left the scene.
A short time later, officers were able to locate the driver of the motor vehicle and through investigation, determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Red Lake OPP Detachment for further testing.
As a result, Canaan ATKINSON, 30-years-old, of Kenora, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, and Liquor Licence Control Act with:
· Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
· Operation While Impaired Alcohol and Drugs
· Fail to Report Accident
· Fail to Remain
· Having Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Red Lake on September 19, 2024.
