Michelle Schwippl Impaired Driving

On August 8, 2024, at 2:35 a.m., the Grey Bruce OPP were travelling on 10th Street East in the City of Owen Sound when they located a vehicle stopped at a green light and noticed the driver appeared to be passed out behind the wheel. While the officers were speaking to the driver, they were displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment for further tests by a Qualified Breath Technician along with a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
Michelle Schwippl, 42-years-old of Hanover was charged with:
· Operation while impaired alcohol and drugs
The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on September 5, 2024.
Road safety is a priority for the OPP and officers are trained in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and as Drug Recognition Experts (DRE), giving them the skills to identify a driver who is impaired by a drug. Officers can also use Approved Drug Screening Equipment to enforce zero tolerance sanctions with young, novice and commercial drivers.
