On September 22, 2024, officers were conducting marine patrol duties on the Trent River, a portion of the Trent Severn Waterway system. At approximately 4:00 p.m., police spoke with the occupants of a 17-foot metal hulled boat which was underway north of Hickory Island, Trent Hills.
There were four occupants on board and officers observed a quantity of unsealed cans of liquor. Police conducted safety checks and the operator at the helm was unable to produce a buoyant heaving line or an operable waterproof flashlight. There were no lifejackets on the vessel.

Remaining passengers were provided with personal flotation devices and brought to shore by an operator who had a valid pleasure craft operator card.

Operating boat underway with unsealed container of liquid
Operating non-human powered pleasure craft without prescribed vessel safety equipment on board
