On October 1, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving an eastbound dark blue pick-up truck travelling at an excessive high rate of speed, swerving all over the road and narrowly causing a head on collision on Highway 17 near Pronto Road within the Township of the North Shore.
At approximately 13:10 p.m., police initiated a traffic stop on Highway 17 near Woodlawn Drive in the Town of Blind River. While speaking to the driver police determined that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance, and a subsequent arrest was made. Also, in the drivers possession was approximately 7 grams of suspected fentanyl and drug paraphernalia located in a vest pocket. The driver was later assessed by Mississauga First Nation Police Services Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) at Blind River detachment.
As a result, Adrian ST DENIS, 58 years-of-age from Serpent River First Nation was charged with:
Operation while impaired drug
Possession of a schedule I substance-opioid (other than heroin)
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on November 7, 2024.
The pick-up truck was towed and impounded for seven days with the driver being issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension.
