Douglas TURTLE Deceased – Suspicious Circumstances

(PIKANGIKUM, ON) – On Thursday, March 27, 2025, members of the Pikangikum Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service at a location near Airport Road in Pikangikum First Nation for an individual in medical distress. The individual was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as Douglas TURTLE, 50 years old of Pikangikum First Nation. A postmortem examination will be conducted at the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) in Toronto.

The OPP North West Crime Unit is continuing to investigate, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the OFPS.

Members of the public can expect to see a large police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
