2 Arrested At RIDE Drugs A Factor

On Monday, April 28, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE check at the Swing Bridge in Little Current. A vehicle came through the RIDE, and police observed open alcohol in the vehicle. Further investigation resulted in both the driver and passenger being arrested.
Additionally, police seized a handgun, an amount of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $1,500, and an amount of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $200.
As a result, the driver, Peter SCHAJ, 61-years-old from Sudbury, was charged with:
Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
Possession of prohibited device for dangerous purpose
Careless storage of firearm
Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited weapon
Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition
Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
Possession of a prohibited device
Carrying concealed weapon
Carrying concealed prohibited device
Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited device
Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The passenger, Luke WABEGIJIK, 24-years-old from Sheshegwaning First Nation, was charged with:

Both accused remain in custody, and are scheduled to appear in court today, April 28, 2025.
