Officers learned this traffic complaint originated from the Toronto area. The vehicle was observed hitting the concrete barrier before shooting across all three eastbound lanes before finally coming to a stop on the right hand shoulder of the highway. Officers located a silver Hyundai SUV with minor damages to the drivers side front fender and rim. The driver was not inside or nearby the vehicle and was located at the vehicles registered owners place of residence. Upon speaking with the driver police detected a strong odour of alcohol emanating from their breath and was displaying other signs of impairment. The officer then made an Approved Screening Device (ASD) Demand; however, the driver refused to provide a suitable sample of the breath into the ASD.
Marley CALLOW (age 34) of Warkworth, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:
· Failure or refusal to comply with demand
· Dangerous operation
· Operation while impaired alcohol and drugs
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 27, 2025.
The Northumberland OPP would like to remind the public that failing to provide a suitable sample of breath upon an officers demand carries the same consequences as Operation while impaired alcohol and drugs, and Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The OPP remains committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and educating road users about the dangers posed by motorists who drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Drivers need to remember that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair ones ability to drive. Do your part in keeping our roads safe by planning ahead.
