NHBP Thanks Police, Press, Foodland, Volunteers, and Public for Successful Fundraiser Date: 2012-08-18 11:40:26 By: North Huron Block Parents
On August 17, 2012, North Huron Block Parents® held
their first fundraiser at Foodland in Wingham.
Volunteers BBQ'd hot dogs & hamburgers, which helped
raise $289.36 in donations. These donations had no
expenses associated with them, due to the very generous
donation by Martino, the manager of Foodland in Wingham, who
donated the food, condiments, space, and BBQ.
Eastlink sent a cameraman to our event who interviewed
several people, this should appear on their cable news
starting next Wednesday. The Advance Times also showed
up to cover the fundraiser BBQ.
There was a strong police presence, even the Chief of Police
was seen wearing a temporary Block Parent® tattoo.
Wingham Police Officers were seen chatting with our youth,
sporting temporary tattoos and informing the public about
the Block Parents® program.
Only one North Huron Councillor attended, Bernie Bailey.
North Huron Block Parents® would like to thank Foodland,
Wingham
Police Service, The Advance Times, Eastlink,
Wingham
Free Press, and Bernie Bailey for their support of the
Block Parents® program. We would like to thank all
the Block Parents® and citizens that helped organize,
setup, execute and clean up for this event. NHBP
would also like the thank the anonymous donor of our outdoor
banner, which will be used at fundraisers and other events.
We would also like to thank the public for their
generosity. The $289.36 raised will go towards
promoting the Block Parents® program. We will
publicly disclose where every penny is spent, by having our
financial
information available online in a timely fashion.

Posted By: villageofblyth Block Parents Kudos to all of those involved. It is refreshing to see some people trying to restore that sense of community. People working together to accomplish good for their neighbourhood is something that seems to be lacking in many parts of the country today. We have become far to introverted and uncaring of our neighbours. That is why the predators have become much bolder because they can move about our neighbourhoods without being questioned and our doors are locked not only against them but against those who need our help. Block Parents provides an open and safe door for children who need shelter not only from others would would bring them harm but simply when they need help or are lost. Keep up the good work.
