Mobile Crane Vs Tractor Trailer Collision
Source: Area OPP
Date: Fri Jan 5 10:24:35 MST 2018
A large mobile crane entered the intersection into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer, resulting in irreparable damage to both vehicles. The quick reaction and attention of the transport truck driver prevented the collision from being substantially worse. The driver of the crane was uninjured. The truck driver was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The intersection was closed for several hours and specialized equipment was required to clear the scene. Driver inattention is suspected and charges are pending following the outcome of the investigation. Intersection related collisions can be catastrophic and investigators in this incident are amazed that both drivers survived. "Given the carnage at this scene, I can scarcely believe that this wasn't a double fatality collision." Provincial Constable Paul Payette, Perth County OPP.
Preventable motor vehicle collisions require the efforts of numerous emergency crews. Extreme temperatures, snow and ice covered road ways and areas of debris create hazardous and dangerous working conditions for those who are called to respond.
Members of Perth County Paramedic Services, Perth East Fire Department-Sebringville Station, Neumeister Motors Limited, Ross' Towing and Transport, Township of Perth South and the Perth County OPP are to be commended for their collaborative efforts.
