During the 24 hour period, Wellington OPP responded to 50 motor vehicle collisions. Of those 40 were non-reportable property damage, 7 reportable property damage, 1 fail to remain property damage and 2 involving vehicles stuck in snowdrifts on the roadway.
Almost all of the collisions were as a result of the driver putting their motor vehicle in the ditch because they were unable to see where they were going or they drove into snowdrifts on the roadway.
During severe weather events, motorists are reminded to monitor the media outlets for updates, including road closures. Motorists are also reminded that driving on a closed road is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act. Doing so puts you and your passengers at risk and puts police and all Emergency Responders at risk who come to your aid.
Wellington County and the surrounding area is expected to get blanketed again today with approximately another 10 cm of snow. Let's do better this time and avoid any unnecessary travel when possible during winter storm events.
