Police were called to an address near Marksam Road and Stephen Drive just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The homeowner had returned home to find the house ransacked and property missing.
Neighbours reported seeing a male knocking on the front door of the home shortly after the occupants went out Saturday morning before walking towards the rear of the house. He was described as a white male in his 40s, 56 to 58 and wearing dark clothing including possibly long shorts and carrying a red reusable bag.
Approximately $5,700 in Canadian and American cash and jewelry including bracelets, rings and pendants were reported missing.

Store employee spat upon
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after someone spit in the face of an employee of a south-end business.
Just after 8 p.m. Saturday, police were called to a business on Stone Road West. An employee had asked two men and a woman to leave the business because they were being disruptive and bothering customers. The three became verbally confrontational before the woman hit the employee in the face with her hand and then spat in his face.
The woman was described as white, early 30s, thin build with blonde hair with brown roots and a gap in her front teeth. She was wearing a green dress shirt, camouflage leggings and brown construction boots. The men were both white, early 30s with medium builds. One had black shaggy hair and was wearing a black sweater, black shorts and blue flip-flops. The other had tattoos on both arms and was wearing a blue polo shirt and dark pants.

London man arrested for Guelph LCBO thefts
A London man has been arrested in connection with the 2022 theft of more than $3,300 in product from two Guelph LCBO stores.
On October 20, 2022, a man and woman attended two liquor stores in Guelph, stealing a total of 45 bottles of alcohol. The pair were identified by LCBO investigators.
On Friday a 42-year-old London man was arrested on two counts of theft under $5,000 and two counts of breaching a release order. He will appear in bail court May 8.
Second arrest in church break-in
A second person has been arrested in connection with a break-in and theft of electronics from a downtown church.
The morning of April 24, an employee of the church which provides meals and refuge to the citys underserved population reported a break-in the previous evening. Approximately $7,600 in electronics were stolen. It is believed three suspects hid inside the church until it closed.
Last Monday, a 23-year-old Guelph woman was arrested downtown and charged with break, enter and commit theft. On Friday a 49-year-old Guelph man was arrested on the same charge. Both will appear in court June 14.
The investigation is ongoing to identify the other involved male.
Employee assaulted stopping theft
A Guelph man faces charges after an employee of a business was assaulted while stopping a theft.
Just before 8 a.m. Saturday, an employee of a business on Eramosa Road was outside when he saw a man trying to remove a shopping cart from the property. The employee intervened and the suspect struck him in the head, causing the victims glasses to fall off and break.
The suspect was located a short distance away and arrested. A 46-year-old Guelph man is charged with theft, assault and two counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court May 28.
